Balchem has launched StabiliPro, a new portfolio of excipients designed to stabilize probiotics and extend their shelf life.

The new range of products will be revealed for the first time at SupplySide Global. Balchem experts will discuss the science during a presentation at the Product Development Theater on Oct. 30 at 11:30 a.m.

At the show, the company’s experts will discuss research demonstrating StabiliPro’s ability to maintain probiotic integrity, resulting in a longer shelf life, reduced need for overages due to deterioration, and the enabling of cleaner labels.

Formulation challenges in the probiotics space include regulatory hurdles, shelf-life stability, and the need for further research. The viability of probiotics is one of the most significant challenges due to microorganisms’ sensitivity to processing and high-moisture environments. Excipients can play a vital role in overcoming these manufacturing challenges, the company reported.

“The probiotics market is growing rapidly and shows no signs of slowing down, so solutions like StabiliPro are essential in ensuring that functional food, beverage and dietary supplement innovators can achieve effective, cost-efficient formulations to meet the demands of today’s health-conscious consumers,” said Josephine Nakhla, strategic marketing and business development manager for powders and cereal. “Building on decades of particle engineering expertise, StabiliPro is an exciting addition to our already extensive portfolio of food and beverage ingredient solutions. This launch marks another key milestone in our mission to deliver trusted, innovative and science-based solutions to our customers.”
